What is Public Health Research?
Public health research helps researchers understand the environmental, genetic, and social health determinants that influence population health.
School of Public Health Student Centered Activities
Each year, the School of Public Health selects one graduating undergraduate level, masters level and doctoral level student to receive the Award for Research Excellence. These awards recognize students who have demonstrated excellence in the design, conduct, execution, and impact of research stemming from thesis, dissertation, or a portfolio of research projects in which they have been involved during their research experience at the school.
Public health students have opportunities to participate in a wide variety of research-focused activities. The Students to Faculty Initiative (S2F) is a tool that connects students to current projects our faculty are conducting.
Each year, the School of Public Health (SPH) sponsors an annual poster session and contest to coincide with Public Health Week (the first week in April) to highlight the many research, outreach, training, and service activities at SPH.
This video series highlights public health research experts speak on hot topics such as the impacts of nature on health.
Aggie Research Programs
The Research-Intensive Community Model was developed at Texas A&M to bring together those who are seeking research leadership opportunities (grad students & postdocs) with undergraduates seeking research opportunities. By integrating research and education, this approach promotes mutually-beneficial partnerships amongst practicing researchers and students. The Aggie Research Leadership Programs include the DeBakey Executive Research Leadership Program as well as the following:
Student Research Week
Student Research Week (SRW) is the largest student-run research symposium in the nation. This four-day competition highlights student research occurring on the Texas A&M campus. Students who participate are provided a venue to present their work through either oral presentations or poster sessions. This event allows students, faculty, and the community to see the depth and breadth of research conducted at Texas A&M. For the past 27 years, SRW has been a valuable tool in meeting the university’s mission of academic, research, and service excellence. SRW is a premier program of the Graduate and Professional Student Government and is supported by several academic and non-academic departments on campus. The events for SRW 2022 are scheduled to be in person.
Undergraduate Research
Launch: Undergraduate Research promotes, coordinates, creates, and assesses undergraduate programs involving creative scholarship, inquiry, and research in all academic disciplines at Texas A&M.
Graduate and Professional School
The Texas A&M University System Pathways student Research Symposium gives system students an opportunity to present their research to faculty members, judges, and other students across the system. Separate categories are available for undergraduate, master’s and doctoral-level posters or oral presentations.
