Texas A&M University School of Public Health welcomes international students to apply! All international applicants to our graduate-level degrees must take the following steps to be considered for admission.
Foreign Coursework & Transcript Evaluations
Applicants with coursework from institutions outside of the U.S. and English-speaking Canada must submit international academic credentials to World Education Services (WES) for a course-by-course (ICAP) evaluation and U.S. equivalency determination. Applicants should submit the WES evaluation directly to the SOPHAS (or HAMPCAS). English Language Proficiency Requirement
All international graduate students must meet minimum English Language Proficiency (ELP) standards for admission and registration at Texas A&M University. This is attainable by achieving a minimum required score on an acceptable standardized examination, citizenship with an English-speaking country, or completion of a conferred Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at an accredited academic institution within the United States.
Official English language proficiency (ELP) test scores are required for most international applicants. Citizens of certain English-speaking countries are exempt from this requirement. Refer to the list on the TAMU Office of Admissions website.
If an applicant’s country of citizenship is not on the exempted list of countries, the applicant is required to submit official scores that meet our school minimum ELP requirement or meet the Alternative Verification/Certification criteria for the Texas A&M School of Public Health.
Test Scores
Submit proof of English language proficiency as demonstrated by one of the following global test scores that are acceptable to meet the ELP Requirement for admission and registration:
- IELTS Academic Test: Minimum overall band score of 7.0 (or higher) from a test date within two years.
- SOPHAS applicants should send official scores to SOPHAS
- HAMPCAS applicants should send official scores electronically to Texas A&M University (College Station and Galveston)
- TOEFL Essentials test: Minimum overall band score of 10 (or higher) from a test date within two years.
- Scores should be submitted to Texas A&M University using code 6003
- Scores should be submitted to Texas A&M University using code 6003
- GRE verbal: Minimum score of 153 (or higher) from a test date within five years.
- SOPHAS applicants should send official scores to GRE Code 7841
- HAMPCAS applicants should send official scores to GRE Code 0653
- TOEFL iBT test:
- Minimum Overall score of 95 or higher (in person or Home Edition) for tests taken prior to January 21, 2026.
- Minimum overall score of 5.0 or higher (in person or Home Edition) for tests taken on or after January 21, 2026, with a 4.0 minimum score required on each individual skill section.
- SOPHAS applicants should send official TOEFL iBT scores to school code 5688
- HAMPCAS applicants should send official TOEFL iBT scores to school code B589
ELP Alternative Verification or Certification
An international graduate student may qualify for English Language Proficiency (ELP) Alternative Verification by
- completing a bachelor’s degree (with less than four years of coursework) at an accredited academic institution located within the United States or
- completing a master’s degree at an accredited academic institution located within the United States.
An international graduate student may qualify for English Language Proficiency (ELP) Alternative Certification if they completed a bachelor’s degree with all coursework completed at an accredited academic institution within the United States.
The degree must be awarded (conferred) at the time of application submission. The official transcript(s) submitted with your application will be used to confirm the conferred degree status and will verify eligibility for ELP Alternate Verification or Certification.
