Elisa Beth McNeill, PhD, CHES® is currently an Instructional Professor in the Department of Health Behavior-School of Public Health at Texas A&M University [TAMU]. Dr. McNeill is a 40-year teaching veteran having experience with middle school, high school, and at-risk pregnant and parenting adolescents. She earned her masters' degree and Principals Certificate in Educational Administration and her PhD in Health Education from TAMU. Beth is known for her innovative instruction, she teaches courses in human sexuality, elementary and secondary school health pedagogy, population health promotion, consumer health and community & school health methodology. Her courses are designed to promote application in authentic contexts and frequently include service learning.
Beth has co-authored a textbook on health methodologies, Health Education: Creating Strategies for School and Community Health. Dr. McNeill designs curriculum and assessment materials for a variety of entities. She frequently presents at state, regional, national, and international conferences with multiple publications and book chapters.
Dr. McNeill contributes to the national professional community through engagements with the American School Health Association, the Society for Public Health Education, and the American College Health Association. She co-chaired the Consensus Project to write the National Health Education Standards (3rd edition): Model Guidance for Curriculum and Instruction. Locally she serves as a Board member for the Brazos valley Prenatal Clinic and the Weekday School of A&M Methodist Church.
Dr. McNeill is working on several research projects dedicated to promoting a variety of health concerns. She serves as project coordinator for Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). This outreach project strives to train lay persons to act as first responders in situations of mental health compromise. McNeill also serves as a consultant designing curriculum for the reduction of opioid use and the promotion of healthy sexuality for youth.
