Why did you choose Texas A&M Public Health?

I attended Texas A&M University intending to pursue a medical degree, but I fell in love with public health and the broad impacts the field has on people’s lives. I have always been driven to help others, and a career in public health will help me have the biggest impact on people’s well-being.

I learned about ergonomics, the study of work and human capacity; all the small changes that can improve worker quality of life fascinate me. My interest in emergency management and accident investigation ultimately helped me find my way into occupational safety and health. I was fortunate to be a part of a collaborative research project between the School of Public Health and the School of Geosciences. I was a part of a cohort of students who worked on integrating public health and Geographic Information Science (GIS). I was specifically involved with mapping clinics offering HIV services in relation to locations with high HIV prevalence.

I believe that all of the health professions would benefit from increased partnerships and collaboration. Public health is the field that can serve as a bridge between the different health fields. I encourage all students interested in health and helping others to attend the School of Public Health because of the opportunities to learn from and collaborate with faculty and staff who are passionate about their students.

Currently, I am a health educator with the Texas A&M University Counseling & Psychological Services.
