Work Group Leadership Positions

Work Group-Chair

This leadership position is appointed. Ambassadors appointed must be a returning ambassador in good academic standing.

  • Reports to Faculty Health and Wellness Committee Chair and Student Ambassador Program Coordinator
  • Attends all work group meetings from October – April
  • Attends most Committee meetings with faculty, and staff once a month from August-April
  • Serves as chair for assigned work group
  • Works to manage conflicts, questions and concerns among student ambassadors
  • Delegates task and responsibilities if need be to vice chair
  • Leads work group meetings
  • Drafts and present action items that need to be addressed during the meeting to the program coordinator
  • Contributes positively to a culture of professionalism and respect in all aspects of the Student Ambassador Program
  • If serving in the Health Promotion & Communication Work Group, then, the chair will lead 1 of the 2 committees (i.e. Health Promotion Committee or Communication Committee). 

Work Group- Vice Chair

This leadership position is appointed. Ambassadors appointed must be a returning ambassador in good academic standing.

  • Reports to Student Committee Chair
  • Attends all work group meetings from October – April as needed
  • Attends Committee meetings with faculty, and staff once a month from August-April as needed
  • Serves as vice chair for assigned work group
  • Works to manage conflicts, questions, and concerns among student ambassadors with assistance from committee chair
  • Completes delegated tasks and responsibilities if need be
  • Leads work group meetings if need be
  • Works with chair to draft and present action items that need to be addressed during the meeting to the program coordinator
  • Contributes positively to a culture of professionalism and respect in all aspects of the Student Ambassador Program
  • Serves as an alternate to the chair
  • If serving in the Health Promotion & Communication Work Group, then, the vice chair will lead 1 of the 2  committees. (i.e Health Promotion Committee Or Communication Committee) 

Work Group- Liaison

This position is elected by peers. Those elected must be in good academic standing, and can be a new pr returning ambassador.

  • Selected from new ambassador group (self-nominated and voted upon by workgroup)
  • Assists Student chair and Vice chair in committee processes and activities
  • Solicits feedback from new ambassadors regarding proposed activities and work group structure

Health Promotion & Communication Work Group

The mission of the Health Promotion & Communication work group is to train and empower the next generation of public health leaders to promote and communicate healthier lifestyles, a culture of health, and establish healthier workplaces and communities. 

Work Group Goals

The specific goals of this workgroup are as follows:

  • To assess the needs, and resources for health and wellness activities for the SPH and the community
  • To plan health, and wellness activities for the SPH and the community
  • To implement health, and wellness activities for the SPH and the community
  • To evaluate and measure the success of health, and wellness activities for the SPH and the community. 
  • To communicate (media), promote, and advocate for health and wellness 
  • To serve as a health and wellness resource for SPH and the community. 
  • To perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned including supports for other health and wellness activities or projects led by an SPH Faculty, staff, preceptor or program coordinator. 

Work Group Participation

Participation is based on:

  1. Attending monthly work groups meetings (1 per month)
  2. Completing the following Activities/Tasks (based on the project; only 1)
    • Developing and Disseminating Media-related campaigns to promote health and wellness activities
    • Planning, Implementing, and/or measuring the success of community/public health outreach events (ie. First Friday, Age Well Brazos, and volunteer opportunities) 

Work Group Committees

Committees within this work group will be generated. They are as follows: 

Health Promotion Committee will plan, implement and/or measure the success of the following health & wellness events: (Trainings will be provided prior to initiation of responsibilities)

  1. First Friday (September)
  2. CPHA Age Well Brazos Event (September)
  3. Semester Stress Relief (November)
  4. Planning Lunch & Learn Speakers for the Spring (January-April ONLY) (** Program Coordinator will plan and conduct Fall Lunch & Learns)
  5. Healthy Eating Cooking Contest (February)
  6. National Public Health Week (NPHW) Events (April)
    1. World Fit Walk
    2. First Friday
    3. Any other NPHW Events (i.e. public health wall displays)
  7. Ambassador Celebration (April)
  8. Semester Stress Relief (April) 

Communication Committee will be subdivided into the following teams to craft newsletters, flyers for events, and disseminate health & wellness activities via social media for the Work group. (Trainings will be provided prior to initiation of responsibilities)

  1. Newsletter Team: Using Mailchimp Software, this team will develop 3 triannual newsletters.
    • 1st Triannual Newsletter (Emailed out: October/November)
    • 2nd Triannual Newsletter (Emailed out: January/February)
    • 3rd Triannual Newsletter (Emailed out: April/May)
  2. Flyer Team: Using Canva, Piktochart or Microsoft Publisher, this team will develop flyers for H&W Events that the Health Promotion Committee Plans: 
    • Lunch & Learnes
    • Walks to the NG Juice Joint
    • Semester Stress Relief
    • Any other Health & Wellness Events
  3. Social Media Team: Utilizing Hootsuite, a social media dissemination software, this team will disseminate all H&W Activities through:
    • Facebook
    • Twitter
    • Instagram

Work Group Deliverables

Products to be submitted/produced:

  1. A 2-3 minute Testimonial Video about your experiences as an HPC Ambassador. (to be posted on the website and uploaded on youtube)
  2. And one of these:
    • A how-to manual for promotion of Health & Wellness events
    • Documentation of the date, and name of the flyers, newsletters, or items developed to communicate Health & Wellness Events planned by the Health Promotion Committee
    • Participation in Health & Wellness activities that are planned by the Health Promotion Committee 

*All items MUST be submitted by April 30th of the Spring Semester.

Research Work Group

The mission of the Research Work Group is to train and empower the next generation of public health leaders in applying research skills learned in the classroom to a real-world context.

Work Group Goals

The specific goals of this workgroup are as follows: 

  •  To build research capacity by supporting research, research training, and professional development of ambassadors enabling their contribution to public health research. 
  • To plan, coordinate, and/or assist SPH Faculty, staff, preceptor or program coordinator in the initiation of a research study protocol
  • To plan, implement, maintain and/or assist with the data collection and analysis in support of a research protocol or project; may coordinate (with assistance or approval from faculty/staff/preceptor/program coordinator) the collection and analysis of research data
  • To recruit, instruct, and/or coordinate research subjects and/or volunteers as appropriate to specific objectives, scope of work and with approval from project lead (SPH Faculty, Staff, Preceptor or Program Coordinator)
  • To prepare periodic, ad-hoc, or manuscripts as required by the SPH Faculty, staff, preceptor or program coordinator
  • To perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned including supports from other programs or projects led b by an SPH Faculty, staff, preceptor or program coordinator. 

Work Group Participation

Participation is based on:

  1. Attending monthly work group meetings (1 per month)
  2. Completing the following Activities/Tasks (Select 1 to complete)
    • Identification of Health & Wellness Resources via an excel spreadsheet to be uploaded to My Health Finder
    • Participation in a community-based or research project led by an SPH Faculty, staff, preceptor,  program coordinator or you may elect to work solely as a group of ambassadors (maximum group size is 4). 
      • Conduct Secondary Data Analysis using public health data available or data provided to you by an SPH Faculty, staff, preceptor or program coordinator (i.e. CDC Wonder Data Set, BRFSS and etc.) 
      • Any community-based or research project other than secondary data analysis (i.e. systematic review, scoping review, developing a survey or etc.) 

Work Group Deliverables

Products to be submitted/produced*

  1. A 2-3 minute Testimonial Video about your experiences as a Research Ambassador (to be posted on the website)
  2. And 1 of these:
    • 3-4 page journal entry detailing summation of activities performed in a research or community project
    • 2 Excel Spreadsheet(s) of collected and identified Health & Wellness resources to be uploaded to MyHealth Finder
    • Poster Presentation or Abstract
    • Draft of a policy brief, program or publishable manuscript 

*All items MUST be submitted by April 30th of the Spring Semester.
