Biography
Dr. Kristi Allgood is a trained Social Epidemiologist with more than a decade of field experience working as a Social Epidemiologist at a research institute nested in a safety-net hospital located on the westside of Chicago. Allgood’s field work focused on examining racial and ethnic health disparities in small areas of Chicago, developing and evaluating programs focused on breast cancer, HIV, STIs and hepatitis C and incorporating community health workers/navigators in the hospital as well as in the community. Dr. Allgood’s work in Chicago has strongly influenced her primary research examining the causes of health disparities by focusing on policies and laws that have contributed to poor health outcomes in all phases of life. Dr. Allgood has been working on examining issues such as rural/urban differences in access to care during the COVID-19 pandemic in Michigan and the relationship between social vulnerability and COVID related mobility disability. Finally, Dr. Allgood looks forward to working with and mentoring students.

- Best Student Poster at the annual meeting of the Society for Epidemiologic Research in 2022 for her poster titled: Vicarious Structural Racism and Infant Health Disparities in Michigan: The Flint Water Crisis, 2022.
- University Program in Public Health TA Excellence Award for the both the 2015 and 2016 school year based on exceptional reviews from students.
- Champion Health Care Provider Award in 2015 selected by the Metropolitan Chicago Breast Cancer Task Force for providing high-quality breast health care to the uninsured and underinsured residing in Chicago’s westside for her highly successful breast health patient and community navigation programs the Sinai Urban Health Institute.
- Illinois Hospital Association Innovation in Quality Award in 2011 for her quality improvement outcomes associated with the navigation program in breast health.
