The Master of Science in Health Education is designed to train and mentor the next generation of health education specialists who provide and manage programs through the provision of foundational and professional classroom education combined with real-world opportunities. Future health education specialists are prepared to work with individuals, families and communities to maximize and maintain healthy lifestyles. The program is grounded in the Responsibilities and Competencies for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) developed by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. (NCHEC). Students completing the master’s program are prepared to sit for the exam to be a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).
The Master of Science in Health Education is a 36-hour program with the option to complete a thesis or non-thesis degree plan.

After careful consideration, the Texas A&M University School of Public Health will not be admitting to the MS in Health Education program.
The Master of Science in Health Education offers both a non-thesis and thesis option.
In the non-thesis program, students are required to complete a block of core courses (the Health Education Core), a professional internship and elective coursework. Decisions on elective coursework are determined by the student with their Graduate Advisory Committee Chair and based on interests and career goals.
The thesis program is research-oriented, but requires competence as a practicing health educator. Students are required to complete a block of core courses (the Health Education Core), research and statistic courses and elective coursework. Decisions on elective coursework are determined by the student with their Graduate Advisory Committee Chair and based on interests and career goals.
